As we're constantly learning, there is no one-size-fits-all approach to wellness. In order to find the best personal health plan, it can take lots of research and fine-tuning habits. To highlight this journey, we’re starting at the very beginning of the day. By zooming into the morning routines of our faculty, alumni, and other members of the health community that we admire, we’ll showcase what works for them. In illuminating the difference and similarities of these routines, we hope you’ll find a tangible starting point with your healing.

We caught up with London-based Multidisciplinary Art Director, Holistic Nutritionist and AHN alum, Sophie Hui Lin Walker for the next feature in our series.

  1. Drink warm water from thermo.

  2. Take BBT (Basal Body Temperature) with tempdrop.

  3. Play happy morning tunessss!

  4. Bathroom: Brush teeth + Skincare accompanied by some not-so-great dance moves. Sometimes dry brush if I need an extra energy boost.

  5. Take supplements and tinctures.

  6. Boil water for my morning elixir - this changes depending on how my body feels. I normally switch between Matcha/lemon water/or tea.

  7. Emails and social media catch up.

What led you to this morning routine?

It's taken me a few years to find a routine that works for me, and upon writing this it will probably change again! However, one thing I have always believed in is people making time for themselves in the morning to reflect on their current state of being. As someone with PCOS and hormonal imbalances, I prioritise a routine for body awareness and cycle tracking. Being half Chinese, I lean towards a TCM approach of aligning with seasonal rhythms and internal cycles of the body.

For you, what is the importance of following a morning routine?

I think of morning routines as the first physical declaration and ritual of love for oneself during the day. Small acts of self-love in the AM really lift my mood and set a good foundation for the rest of the day, meaning I present my best self to clients, friends, and family. Saying that, I do have days where I defer from a routine, and this is dependent on the season, where I am in my cycle, and what’s going on around me. It’s important to be aware of how your body is feeling, and adapt your routine for whatever it needs.
