we learn to make our medicines & care for each other

Fire Cider uses the medicine of the pungent and sour flavours, and a number of naturally anti-viral and anti-inflammatory ingredients. This familiar tonic is ideal to fortify yourself during cold & flu season, or use as a daily preventative.

Ingredients

  • 5 + garlic cloves

  • 1 medium onion

  • 1⁄4 cup + grated ginger

  • 1⁄2 cup grated horseradish

  • zest and juice of 1 lemon

  • 1-2 jalapeno peppers or 1⁄4 tsp cayenne pepper

  • 1 Tbsp turmeric

  • Raw unpasteurised apple cider vinegar (ACV) to fill the jar

  • Honey (ideally raw) to taste

Directions

1. Place all ingredients (except for honey & vinegar) in a half-gallon canning jar. Add enough ACV to cover by at least three to four inches. Close with a tightly fitting lid.
2. Place the jar in a warm place and let sit for three to four weeks. It’s best to shake it everyday to help in the maceration process.
3. After three to four weeks, strain and reserve the liquid.
4. Now for the honey, which helps the medicine go down. Warm the honey a bit so it mixes well (do not let it simmer) and add to taste. Your Fire Cider should be hot, spicy, and sweet.
5. Rebottle and enjoy! Fire Cider will keep for several months unrefrigerated if stored in a cool pantry, but it’s better to store in the refrigerator.
This is what it looks like to know your tools, and your ability to recover and enhance your health, and cultivate longevity. And then extend that knowledge around you.
